How Do You Choose the Right Program for You

At a time when you feel like you are struggling the most and have finally decided you need help, it can be overwhelming to pick the treatment program that is right for you. The good news… there are programs out there for everyone, the bad news… you have to figure out how to navigate the websites, ads, and attempt to determine which program is going to best help you meet your goals.

What do we recommend? We recommend you search for a program that includes the following elements:

  1. Highly trained and experienced staff: If you were diagnosed with a medical diagnosis such as cancer or heart disease, wouldn’t you want to be treated by a provider who has experience in treating those conditions? Of course you would! Why would being diagnosed with a substance use disorder or mental health condition be any different? Seek a program with trained professionals who can support you on our recovery journey.
  1. Use of evidence-based practices: Again, using the medical diagnosis analogy, wouldn’t you want to be treated using methods that have been proven to be effective? Absolutely you would! Seek a program who uses methods that are proven to be effective for the conditions being treated and tracks outcomes using objective measures.
  1. Accreditation: Simply put, accreditation by outside bodies means that the company meets certain standards and is monitored on an ongoing basis to ensure they continue to meet the standards. I don’t know about you, but personally, I am a fan of having outside eyes on a company to ensure safety and quality of care standards that can sometimes be missed.
  1. The feeling: The feeling you get when you know something seems right for you. Either you connect with something the company’s outreach person said on the phone or you were interested to learn more about something posted on the company’s website. The feeling you get when you think someone else “gets it” and gives you that little bit of hope to move forward. Trust your gut.

At NorthSight Recovery we understand our programs may not be the best fit for everyone, but we are dedicated to helping clients navigate the plethora of programs out there to arrive at the best choice, even if it’s not with us. Our clinical outreach team has numerous resources available and are eager to assist.
